Sailing on the holy River Ganges, believed to be the mother of all life by a billion Hindus, is a rare experience very few embrace. Few tourists know that it is even possible to travel this famous waterway. This is not a normal tour and is for that reason every experience is unique. The tour begins in Allahabad, where the holy Yamuna River meets the Ganga (or Ganges). This is also the place where the ashes of Mahatma Gandhi were immersed. We sail for five days in a local fisherman's rowing boat and spend our nights in tents along the riverside. Relax as you witness some of the most extraordinary daily activities on the river - boatmen pulling the loads of sand for several days upstream, fishing boats, crab catchers, waterside distilleries. The experience is fascinating and deeply peaceful all at once. Enjoy the colourful array of birdlife, and most importantly, meet the rare river dolphins that may accompany you alongside the boat. There will be opportunities to visit the Ganga villages. The local people here rarely see tourists so your experience will be warm and hospitable.

Arriving in Varanasi after five days of serenity is an exceptional contrast. This experience will be imprinted in your memory forever. Varanasi is known as the world's oldest living city. It breathes mystery, myth, faith and religion and is believed to be the central part of the Hindu universe. Thousands of pilgrims from all over India, and the world, come here every day to cleanse themselves in the holy River Ganga or to exhale their last breadth in the belief of achieving Nirvana. Witness the daily activities here and be astounded - from death to rebirth, the Ganges is a vibrant testimony to this country of extremes.
